A Winter Wonderland – Snow!

So today went quite a bit better than yesterday! We finally had a good night at the new hotel in Speyer, so we got and spent some time walking down the main street, it’s quite beautiful! We toured the famous Speyer Cathedral, Europe’s largest Romanesque style cathedral, which contains the tombs of nearly dozen Holy Roman Emperors, Kings of Germany, their wives, bishops and other old medieval church leaders. The cathedral is really nice, but also relatively plain, especially compared to other grand gothic cathedrals.

After the cathedral we walked rather quickly as we were short on time to get our next train, down the main shopping street of Speyer which has the Christmas Market, and lots of neat and pretty decorated streets, as well as seeing several other churches along the way. One of the attractions we wanted to hit as a massive airplane museum, I didn’t really get photos of it, but it has tons and tons of aircrafts you can explore and go in.

We finally made our way, and for the third time, my trip to my second favorite city after Munich… Nuremberg! Home of Europe’s largest Christmas Market. And I was really hoping it would happen, and at some point it did! It snowed! As we got off the train the heavy rain had turned into itty bitty chunks of ice falling down gently, but it was a pretty dense snow. Sadly it was really not as cold as one might think, so it melted nearly as soon as it hit the ground and throughout the night it was an almost constant rain that towards the end of the night turned back into snow! We didn’t do really anything besides explore the Christmas Market, and darn is it big! Lots of stuff, but short on food and drink stalls!

On the train I was finally in a position to create a map of our travels so far! I know it’s a bit late now for a map and the trip is nearly over, but it’s better now than never!
