…And by saddle I mean the best state in Germany – Bavaria!
So basically the story of today was trains, trains and more trains. Some of my plans didn’t work out for my next intended stops, due to poor location, and very high prices so I stayed up very very late last night deciding what to do, where was best, and had to replan my next few stops. I was deciding last night to visit Liechtenstein, and I just didn’t find much that interested me. But hey, how much can there be to do when the country is 5% the size of Rhode Island. My next intended destination was the town of Lindau, on a giant lake in Germany that borders with Switzerland, and there were no good hotel deals or locations, so I decided to skip that and move to my next planned town, leaving me in a town with a very, very interesting secret. You could wander allllllllll over town, and you would never know… The secret is that Jimmy Hoffa is buried under the town hall. I do still plan to visit Lindau, making a day trip from Munich, which I think in the end will actually be easier and cheaper. It’s a neat town on an island in the lake, which has two names: Lake Constance, and Bodensee.
As for the city I am in, I shall reveal it’s name and location tomorrow! So long story short, I spent about 8 hours on multiple trains to some hidden and mysterious (not really) location in Bavaria, but the town does have a cool secret. My adventures in Switzerland are over, as I spent the most of the world’s money on food alone so I am back in Germany. If you thought I was serious when I mentioned that I was done with Germany when I left for Switzerland, click here.
I left Grindelwald at about 11:30 in the morning. I got here at 8:30, all trains, with almost no time waiting at stations between trains. I had to go the long way around.
So in order to fill space I’ll reflect on a few things. The funnest things, in no particular order:
- The Silver Mines in Goslar
- The Völklingen Ironworks in Völklingen
- Swimming in the North Sea on Borkum
- First Mountain Activities in the Swiss Alps in Grindelwald
- Babelsberg Filmpark in Potsdam
- The Rodelbahn of Todtnau
- Just about everything on this trip
The least fun things of the trip:
- Paying 2-3-4 times the amount stuff should cost in Switzerland
The easiest parts of the trip:
- Getting to Beethoven’s House from my hotel in Bonn – the 33 second walk
- Getting to the McDonald’s literally about a 6 second walk directly across the street from my hotel in Zürich
The hardest part of the trip:
- Sneaking past Amnesty International representatives without getting noticed and approached in Trier, and Potsdam. I failed 3/4 times.
And to further pad this, let’s go with another German city with a goofy name: Lahr. Not sure why, I just find it funny.
