The Largest Waterfall In Europe

The largest waterfall in Europe! I took a train north to the city of Neuhausen am Rhein to see it, quite near the border with Germany. Known as the Rheinfall here in Switzerland. Here it is, behold its glory!

It’s over twice as tall as I am!

PRETTY NEAT HUH!? Here’s some facts:

150 meters wide, 23 meters tall, 13 meters deep, water flow amount during the Summer: 600m^3. An flow during the Winter: 250m^3 and is around 15,000 years old.

But seriously though it’s pretty cool. It’s not a very tall waterfall like Yosemite, or a very wide one like Niagara falls, but it’s still pretty cool. I took a little boat tour which takes you right up into the mists which was fun. I also got a mini souvenir milk can full of Swiss chocolate company Lindt chocolate bars. The chocolate is normally amazingly good, but it was incredibly dried out, and not very good. I then looked at the best until date, and it’s literally just a few days from now. So it’s been sitting there on the shelf for 6+ months, so there’s that.

There’s an old palace, Schloss Laufen, built by some Swiss people along time ago, on a hill overlooking the falls, which was pretty cool.

After that, I took a long walk northeast to the city of Schaffhausen, and walked around. And apparently I was wrong about the stores being open a couple days ago. Everything except restaurants and cafes where closed down the main shopping street. But it still had some cool stuff to look at such as uniquely painted buildings and Munot Fortress, from the 1600’s. It’s a big circular hilltop fortress with what may have been a big moat area surrounding it, now serving as a home for deer from the nearby zoo. There were a couple museums I wanted to go to as well but they were closed. One is called the Museum in the Armory and just has rooms full of tanks and other military vehicles on display.

Note: In Imgur, you can click the images to embiggen them. Which is a nice upgrade since on this website you can’t.
