More Zürich

This’ll be a short one… more or less. I took a train to the top of Uetliberg, a large mountain overlooking the land all around which was cool. Very weirdly when I got there up to the top of the mountain and on top of the observation tower I heard lots and lots of really loud, but really distant explosions and I wondered what it was. Every 5-10 seconds there would be 1 or 2 or more loud pops. Then I realized, it was the sound of gun fire from a shooting range down near the base of the mountain. I looked at google maps, and sure enough there are 2 ranges at the bottom of the mountain. But it was just happening the whole time I was up there. It was rather strange. But I also got to do some nice hiking around the mountain.

One of the cool things about Zürich is the city has over 1,200 water fountains all over the city. Some of them artistic, and some plain for drinking, but all the fountains have fresh clean drinking water, even the artistic fountains. Don’t need to bring a water bottle anywhere, as you’ll stumble across a fountain.

Once again just to complain, it’s still insaannneeellllyyy expensive. Whether it’s food, or souvenirs, or whatever, it’s anywhere from about 50%-200% more expensive than stuff in the US. I walked into a Burger King just to see what the prices were. For a Double Bacon Cheeseburger Medium Size Combo (They don’t have US style larges in Europe) would be around $9. Checking in multiple Burger King’s, that very combo was 18.50 (in Swiss Francs, meaning its $19.12 in US dollars). Pizzas that are around 8-9 Euros in Germany (around $12 US) are 16-20chf (Swiss Francs, which is about $18-21 dollars) I really hope it lowers at least a little outside of Zürich. They are not in the EU, and are very reliant on importation so that drives the prices up high. According to Reuters, Norway and Switzerland are the most expensive countries, or at least most expensive economies.) Anyways, enough of the rant. It’s mostly just something to fill this page with.

So after visiting the mountain I just spent the rest of the day walking around another section of the city, a commercial/business district, mostly lined with restaurants.
