An Island in the Sun

This will be a very short post. I had to do two posts today. One for yesterday 7/31, and one for today 8/1 since I had lost internet last night before I could post it.

Today I was up and off right away to my next city! Took the train a long ways off to the northwestern coast of Germany where I boarded a large ferry, complete with many cars! After a lengthy journey I was on one of Germany’s famous Frisian Islands – a chain of islands along the northwest coast of Germany and the Netherlands. It’s very beautiful, with its Strandkörbe (beach baskets) and flowing grassy sandy hills. Peaceful and smooth oceans, bright sun, and lots of tourists, shopping, sunbathing and swimming. I won’t say which island I am on yet, but they all have goofy names: Baltrum, Borkum, Juist, Norderney, Memmert, Kachelotplate, Juist, Spiekeroog, Wangeroog, and Langeoog. Toured around the neat downtown in what little time I had left, as it took so long to get to, and I will go into more detail tomorrow!

Beach baskets! (Chairs) A really beautiful image from the island.

Not a huge amount of people but the water was very very warm surprisingly (by ocean standards). The recent heatwave probably had/has a lot to do with that.

Light houses!
