Welcome To Munich

Grüß Gott! That is how we Bavarians say good day. Pronounced as grewss goht. The long lost mystery has been solved the ß that isn’t a B is pronounced as an ‘sss’ sound, along with the ü sound being discovered. It means ‘God greets you, or may God greet you’. But then what about ä and ö? Maybe I will explain lätër.

Anyways, my hotel is near Olympia Park, home of the 1972 Munich olympics and the structures and crazy architecture still remain. I went up the super tall tower this time, and went to SEA LIFE München, a neat aquarium museum. I also stopped at the BMW museum, I did more ‘window shopping’ there than anything, just going to the spots anyone can access.

Next was a trip to the city center of Marienplatz, checking out the town hall, leading to the one, the only true Oktoberfest! Just a heads up, there was no drinking or partying on my part at this time. This was an exploratory expedition to check it out. The site of Oktoberfes is spectacular. It is so much more than just drinking, it also has a massive carnival, with dozens of rides, some very large, full size rollercoasters and the like, it was unbelievable, along with the equally insane crowds, shoulder to shoulder tiptoeing almost everywhere. But even walking through it was awesome. That ain’t the only time I am going.  On the way back I checked out Asamskirche, St. Asam’s church, a very heavily detailed and ornately decorated church, it was getting late and it was dark, I will go again sometime and get good pictures. Then I migrated back to my hotel on the other side of town.

One of the many brew tents with literally thousands inside. It is nigh impossible to get in on weekends without a reservation.
