A nice trip to the Rhine Riverside town of Mainz (pronounced Minez) was our actvity of the day, a short distance just outside of Frankfurt. We didn’t do much aside from stroll the town and visit the Christmas Markets, and it’s main square is a very large and nice one.
We visited the interesting Gutenberg Museum/Natural History Museum (which are combined in the same building). Mainz is the town the town’s claim-to-fame, inventor of the Printing Press, Johannes Gensfleisch (Gutenberg) was born in, worked in, and died in. He invented the famous device around 1440, and worked in a shop nearby the cathedral.
After the museums, we headed to the main cathedral square to view the market. We didn’t stay too long, and then headed back to our hotel in Frankfurt. Though I headed out and wandered around the nearby shopping mall.
