How’s that for a click-bait title? But actually it was really great.
The day started off with my mom and I heading east in Stuttgart to the world famous automaker Mercedes-Benz Museum. It started in the late 1800’s, with Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler who each had their own motor companies, and then merged in the 1920’s. The museum is amazing, there’s probably a few hundred cars in a huge neat building obviously tracing the history from it’s beginnings to modern day with allll kinds of vehicles, engines and parts on display, with some neat hands-on exhibit games as well. There even have a gallery full of Mecerdes actully owned by major and famous historical figures. Some of them MB’s in the collection were ones owned by actor Nicholas Cage, an original Pope-Mobile, as well as MB’s owed by Princess Diana, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Japanese Emperor Hirohito, and more.
After leaving, convenient, we could hop right back on the train and take it there for a mini-day trip to the incredible town of Esslingen. It is a fabulous pretty old village town with loads and loads of old-medieval builds in that pretty medieval style called ‘Fachwerk’ in German, or Half-Timbered Housing in English.
But the neat part of the village, is it is all medieval themed. All the booths/shops/stalls, all the workers and entertainers were all dressed in medieval, fantasy, shamanistic or druidic costumes and outfits. There was a hand-powered Ferris wheel, and other hand cranked rides, along with medieval activity stalls, like knife throwing, axe throwing (which I did!) and archery ranges. And set in medieval appearing old towns makes it a truly fabulous and magical atmosphere. The only downer is that most of the day it was lightly raining. Other than that it is easily one of the best markets we’ve been to yet! But enough of all that, here’s the pictures!
