A cold and snowy day. Nice and early in the morning, we got up and took a train to a lovely city situated in a valley in the Alps. The city is stunning, and is far more beautiful than we even realized. (Schnee is the German word for ‘snow’.)
The day started with a walk through the old town, which is loaded with many historic buildings, many of which even have plaques out front explaning the significance of the building.
Then we took a long distance speedy funicular (mostly underground) which eventually took us up a little ways to the hilltop town of Hungerburg. (Yes, it’s real name!) It had a very mini-Christmas market, and a cable car which took us a long ways up to the station of ‘Seegrube’ and then took another cable car up to the peak called “Top of Innsbruck” by the top peak called “Hafelekarspitze” and we had a walk around in some good snow, at 7,401 feet up! It was coolllllddd! But it gives absolutely breath taking views of the valley and city of Innsbruck below.
After we came back down, we had a nice night time stroll through the old town, and Inn River Christmas markets! And had a nice American non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey is rare to come by here it seems. 🦃
