Walking In A Badisch Wunderland

There was a just a little final tiny bit of shopping left to do at the Ulm Christmas Market, so my mom and I spent the morning going around checking out the shops, and picking up things we missed from the previous night. This morning: snow! And lots more snow! The whole morning was just a nice chilly, flurry of snow falling down on everyone and everything!

There were a few delays, but soon enough we were on our way to our next destination!

Karlsruhe. We didn’t make it into town until later in the evening, but immediately, the market was absolutely incredible, from the moment we saw it! It was so beautifully decorated, every inch of it. It was instantly and easily one of the best markets we had ever seen! We took a ride in the ferris wheel on the edge of the plaza, and shortly after we were treated to the opening ceremony of the event, as it was the first night it opened! There was a few speakers, a priest with a prayer, and some singers, and a semi-organized gathering of people of front to help out with the show, carrying dozens of golden star balloons (meaning and purpose unknown), in addition to Santa himself rising off a roof and flying (across a cable) in his sleigh towards the light-tree in the middle! It was an absolutely incredible sight to see everything in this market.

Nearby is another market at the Friedrichsplatz, with an almost even more beautiful forest/woodland themed market. We mostly wanted to save it for another night, and additionally it started getting very, very cold – too cold to bear so we headed in for the night. But it was such a snowy and incredible day, the post name seems fitting, as both Ulm and Karlsruhe are contained within the German state of Baden-Württemberg, roughly where the Badisch dialect of German is spoken.

Karlsruhe, with market at the lit-up red ferris wheel right in the middle, (half hidden behind a tower.)
There is an animated LCD screen that plays Christmas clips right in the middle of the wheel.
From the top of the ferris wheel ride! With the famous Karsruhe palace lit up further in the background.

At the other foresty market.
The (in)famous Trabant. The peak of East German engineering. If you lived in East Germany, this is what you drove, because there was nothing else available.
A pyramid in the middle of the main market square.
A nice steaming hot cup of Kinderpunsch in the typical Glühwein mug! (Apple juice, orange juice and more mixed with sweet seasonings.)
