Budapest, Hungary

Woo. After a long trip I made it with my mom to the country of Hungary, known in Hungarian as Magyarország. (Pronounced something along the lines of ‘Maya-ror-sog’.) It was a long connecting flight from from LAX to Munich Airport, for a 10 hour flight, and then 1 hour from Munich to Budapest arriving 11/17/2023. Budapest was originally 2 cities – Buda, and Pest (pronounced Pesht), but unified into 1 city in the later 1800’s. It’s an absolutely beautiful city with tons and tons and incredible and old neo-classical style buildings everywhere.

The hotel we are at is amazing. There is a great view from our hotel across the river to Buda Castle. It was exhausting but it was only around 6pm when we got to the hotel, so there was time to tour, and tour we did. We had never been to Budapest before so it’s all new for us. After getting settled in, we immediately set for the first Christmas Market in Vörösmarty Square. A neat area in the middle of a large shopping center. We visited all the tents, but didn’t buy anything. We went to plenty of shops and that’s about everything for tonight.

And as always, just like before, it’s picture time!

Budapest Palace on the left across the Danube River, and St. Mathias Church tower poking up on the right.
A large tent serving all kinds of local foods.
A shop selling the famous Hungarian bowl of Goulash, in a bread-bowl.
Neat, but don’t know what this building is.
