Well we made it to the final city and the end of the trip is nearly here. We left Nuremberg in the morning and made it south to the grand (and my favorite German city) of Munich. We checked in a bit too early and then headed straight for the central Marienplatz Christmas Market after dropping off our stuff. Neat! It’s full of more shops, although the day was very very windy! After a while of wandering around the market we went back to check in all the way, and then went to see the Tollwood Festival at the grounds where the famous Oktoberfest is held! It’s and interesting event, held twice a year, once in the Summer and again in the Fall. It’s an event, much, much smaller than Oktoberfest but it’s an event where shops and stalls, and food tents are set up representing crafts and foods from cultures all around the world, and the event also places a strong focus on promoting the environment and supporting ecological awareness. Some tents had themes, like one was a very Irish/British style pub, one had Indian, Turkish and other foods, another had Greek and more. There’s also a massive bazaar tent with hundred stalls or more selling all kinds of crafts. Throughout the day we also visited many of Munich’s massive cathedrals and churches, everyone more incredible than the last.
After that we went back to the hotel to rest for a little bit and then headed out again towards the other markets around town. There’s the main market in the central plaza -the Marienplatz. Another really neat market inside the courtyard of the Munich Residence, the royal palace of former rulers of Bavaria, and a cool medieval themed Christmas Market nearby at Wittelsbacherplatz with a live medieval band!
