Well it was the final night of our cruise and we had a ton of fun, visiting the towns of Basel, Freiburg, Strasbourg, Gengenbach, Heidelberg, Rüdesheim, Cologne and Amsterdam! Today (yesterday) in the mid afternoon, we pulled into the capital city of the Netherlands – Amsterdam! We got off and walked around for a brief bit. We quickly realized just how many bikes there are. There are bikes and bikers EVERYWHERE! My mom and I started walking down the main street as our ship had pulled into the dock which is right next to the train station. We just went into lots of shops before returning and heading down to the large Maritime Museum or in Dutch – Het Scheepvaartmuseum. It was pretty neat, but it was an old building, with a large old probably original merchant sailing ship. There was virtually no information posted about it anywhere, but it was fun to walk through and see what they were like.
After the museum we had walked back down the main shopping street looking for a Christmas market, but much to our surprise we could not find one! Our cruise director had told us beforehand there really aren’t any Christmas Markets in the city, though a small bit of research said there was a small one in front of the famous Rijksmuseum. The city was decorated a little bit but you wouldn’t really know. We couldn’t find much to do given the very limited time in, and time we arrived in Amsterdam. Though our ship stayed docked for the night, leaving us one final night in Amsterdam before disembarking and heading back into Germany! It wouldn’t really be a journey through Germany if we just did a couple stops on the Rhine would it? I will try and get a map up soon.
