How my day started:

  1. Plan to leave Linz today
  2. Sign at train station said train would be delayed 5 minutes
  3. Train indeed shows up 5 minutes as the legend foretold
  4. Get on train, wait about another 10 minutes. Still there in the station
  5. After about 10 minutes still in the station, get an announcement from the conductor saying the police have closed a section of the track and we must wait
  6. An hour and ten minutes later finally get another announcement from the conductor – the track is still closed and we will have to wait for some more time, no estimate given
  7. 10 minutes after that, finally leave
  8. Get to Vienna nearly 90 minutes late.
  9.  Hear over the loud speaker in the Vienna station that there was some rescue operation on the track

Anyways, that’s it, I am now in the capital of Austria, which in German, Austria is called Österreich (Eastern Kingdom/Empire) And the capital Vienna is called Wien (pronounced veen). So I took a subway to about halfway through the city center and walked the rest of the way to my hotel, then spent the rest of the day walking around sightseeing some Viennese things. They really like Mozart. And that about sums it up for the day.

Back to a new edition of German cities with a goofy name! Today there will be two winners: And those two lucky cities Darmstadt. (Darm is the German word for intestines, though it’s unlikely to actually mean that in this context. And stadt means city.) And the other winningest city name is Zinnowitz. A town on the island of Usedom, near Poland.
