Well, I just didn’t have enough fun the last time I went to Nuremberg, so I’m back again! (Known as Nürnberg in Germany.) The lovely gothic town in northern Bavaria/Eastern Franconia which I’m sure you’re very familiar with. I didn’t have much time to do stuff today, and the time I did have was spent in the German History Museum – a museum far cooler than I had imagined. It’s a huge museum that focuses on ancient Roman/Medieval/Baroque Period Nuremberg. It had tons of incredible exhibits. Tons of old German Christian/Religious relics, tons of old Roman artifacts. A room full of musical instruments – one of them was being played by a professional, on one of those old twangy sounding pianos. And of course, my favorite – the armory. A room full of armor and weapons! Nuremberg was one of the main armorsmithing areas in the late medieval period. Plate suits of armor were not around for terribly long before guns and gun powder began getting used in combat. I’ll just get to the pictures soon. Today was the first real actual cold day – it rained. And rained. And rained hard. Not so much in the middle of the day, but I got into the museum before 3 in the afternoon. I left a bit after 6 when it closed and I still didn’t get to see everything. It really began pouring but I still decided to walk around town for a bit anyways. Worth it. With California always on the verge of drought, it’s nice to see and feel that water pouring down – as well as the heavy wind blowing hard. And has still been pouring hard all night.
Today’s German city with a goofy name is: Schwäbisch Gmünd. Who even knows… Schwäbisch means Swabia/n, a region in south western Germany.
