Well, I made it out of Schwerin, and headed to The Big App… err I mean The Big Schnitzel. Yep, back to Berlin! The capital and biggest city in Germany, though still it has significantly less than half the population of New York. Sooo much still to do, so I will be here for a long time! It was a pretty long train ride, but I finally made it to my hotel, which is pretty far out of the city center. I still have so much to do here in Berlin, I got a big map and put dots all over it where everything is that I wanna do, and couldn’t even figure out where to start. Finally decided to go to the city center via U-Bahn (underground train, though this one was all above ground on raised tracks) It turns out there was a little fair or some event going on, with dozens of shop tents, and entertainment games, a silent magician/comedian, and big inflatable balls you could go in and float over an inflatable pool. I headed to the Pergamon Museum which is on my list, which I think is ancient middle Eastern Art Museum, but there was a whopping 90 minute wait to get in! There was a massive line! I wanted to go to the German history museum, but by then it was getting a bit late and all the museums close at 6, so I wasn’t sure if I’d have enough time to get through it all in time. So I figured I might as well continue down the main thoroughfare of Berlin, Unter Den Linden, making my way towards the iconic Brandenburg Gate.
I stopped to get my reservation for entry into the Reichstag Dome, which for security and crowd reasons, you have to go into a ticket office across the street and register ahead of time, giving an ID Card or Passport they copy down. Then I slowly walked back towards my hotel, winding and weaving through streets, making several quick stops along the way, such as to the Abgeordnetenhaus, (the state Parliament of Berlin, as Berlin is the capital of the country, but it’s also one of Germany’s 16 Federal States. And right across the street from that is the Walter Gropius Bau. Walter Gropius was some guy who did something, but the building is also some kind of art type museum. When I saw where I was on the map, I realized I was already fairly near back to my hotel, so instead of riding the U-Bahn back, I just walked it!
