Theme park day 2. This time at Phantasialand land, in the town of Brühl, a short distance south of Cologne. It was another very fun, very exciting ‘freizeit park’ or, freetime park. This one also broken up into geographic locations…more or less. Each land has a resident dragon character representing it, from Schneck of the dark fantasy land, to Quetzal of Mexico land to Wang of China land. It was a great day to go, only extremely light misty rain a couple times throughout the day, but there was literally 0 waiting time for most all the rides, even the biggest ones. Though, sadly about 10 minutes into the parks closing performance, it misted again and they cancelled it shortly after some gymnasts took the stage.
Berlin land is very very similar to Main Street USA in Dland, old timey buildings and stuff with a fun weird MC Escher-esque hotel, where suff is twisted with stairs to nowhere and lots of stuff on the walls and ceilings. It also has a mouse blasting game with 3d screens you use to digitally lob chocolate balls at mice and rats infesting a bakery.
Whimsical fairy tale land…don’t know how to describe, see pictures. It has some neat rollercoasters though. Kind of a fantasy steam-punk world. Has a motion machine where you race through the oceans to find Atlantis, though looks more like a mix of space, underwater, and steam-punk. The land has the world’s largest indoor coaster which is great…except for its in total, complete darkness. There is a Hollywood backlot style boat ride taking you through various movie sets.
Mexico land has a cool Aztec themed log ride, where at one point you are forcefully (and painfully) whipped sideways onto the next flume over, where you proceed backwards for a while. There is also train car themed coaster, which all seem to be popular, called Colorado Adventure which was opened by Michael Jackson.
China Land has a creepy underground ride that works just like the Haunted Mansion, though this one (Geister Rikscha, ghostly rickshaw) takes you through creepy chinese graveyards and into the Chinese demon realm. There is also a Chinese version of the one from Europa Park where you go into a room that spins around.
Dark Fantasy land has a creepy castle walkthrough ending in a mad scientist’s lab which is one of those rides that launch you up high in a tower and fall back down. There is also a castle themed river rapids, which is built over where there was a large fire a decade earlier, which destroyed 2 rides.
Africa land is very small, but it has the only really intense coaster that takes you on loops at high speeds.
But best of all, the park is playing the Pirates 4D Adventure, a fun 3d show, with extra real world special effects, such as water drops and air bursts. It is a movie played in many theme parks, and only in theme parks, following a clumsy pirate captain, (Leslie Nielson) and his trusty steed…assistant, played by Eic Idle of Monty Python and the crew as they search in a hilarious manner for the treasure they buried earlier.
The park is also in the process of building basically the worlds best fastest roller coaster. There are cool windows into the construction area.
One thing that baffles me, and is pretty annoying is both parks I went to have very limited hours, even in Summer season, Pland officially opens at 9, the rides at 10 and closes at 6. Epark open at 10 and closes at 7, such short hours.
Now now, everyone I’m sure wants to know which is better, between Europa Park and Phantasieland, but I don’t believe in favorites, so I won’t say, but I’m going to tell you anyways:
Well now that the comparison is settled, have some pictures. And a video. There are 3 parts of some highly impressive Chinese acrobats, when done with the first, simply click my name under the video to see my channel. There you can see the other parts.
No pictures because the stupid thing is stupid and didn’t upload last night and erased all the pictures I did insert into blog, and don’t want to do it again… (i didnt lose any pictures, just the website lost them, see final album i will post on my return if you really want to)
