I am now awaiting a cease and desist letter from Disney demanding I immediately change the name of this post.
Today was an uneventful day, except leaving Stuttgart on a train that was delayed for 12 minutes, and reached the station 25 minutes late making me miss my layover train. Though luckily there was another one not too much later, though this one added another annoying layover, and while this second train also left a bit late I still made it on time.
The next destination? Gengenbach, in the heart of the black forest. The town is fairly small, and is another one of those idyllic towns with lots of wood structured buildings. (The general name for those old style buildings with visible wood beam supports is known as ‘half-timbered housing’). After going to the church and shopping a little in the small town square….well that was basically everything the town has to offer, though the main attraction is a ways outside of the city, which I will hopefully get to tomorrow, though it sounds a bit difficult. I also walked along a highway for a long ways catching rides with scary people offering me drugs…not really, but I did walk along the road to the neighboring town which was even less eventful.
Strangely, many many shops and restaurants are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, including my inn, which left a note on the window saying my room key was in a box hidden behind the menu sign. I do not know why they are closed but I will try and find out. It is defnitely not the mandatory country-wide Ladenschlussgesetz law saying they gotta be closed on Sundays. This is also the first place I have stayed at which left food (apples) on the beds with a little poem about the joys and benefits of eatting apples. (Which yes! I did actually eat!) The poem is literally titled Praise the Apple. You can figure out the rest.
The temperature is definitely dropping lower and lower these last 2 weeks, but my jacket, pants and beanie are holding strong…(mostly).
