And I’m quite serious. I started out towards Hohenpark, a neat area a short walk away. I was immediately surprised by all the super modern buildings, everything here (at least in my district) looks like buildings from the future it is very awesome. There are fountains all over, and artsy things everywhere too. But in this park is the Killesbergturm, a really neat tower of sorts held up by a beam in the middle but supported and secured entirely by cables and is 132 feet tall. It looks quite unique.
The rest of the day was a long walk through the city, passing the neat town center park, and a place called Feuerseeplatz (fire lake plaza), it is a really cool gothic church called Johanneskirche on an artificial lake, it is not an island though and is easily accesible from around the sides. Apparently there is a light and water show at night and I want to seeeeee it.
I kept going down the long street to the outskirts of the city (a very long walk) up hill. Then more uphill, lots and lots of up hill-ness along a highway. Finally atop the main hill there is another large hill. You go up a long spiral path up hill to the center that takes you to the top where you will find large piles of busted rocks and what looks like ruins. Because it is. The whole entire hill up top is a massively huge 1.5 million cubic meter pile of rubble from the city of Stuttgart called Birkenkopf (birch head). As with everywhere else, the city was heavily damaged in the war and over the course of 4 years the ruins and rubble was piled up into a mountain and covered in dirt and trees. Though I kinda wish it wasn’t covered with dirt and trees as that would be quite a sight. So yes, today there was a giant pile of waste. Bwahaha. There are others of these around Germany. The ruins had to go somewhere, so why not turn it into a park. What you see up top is only a tiny fraction of what is under.
On the way back at the main train station I caught the end of another large street protest. This one I think was against the TTIP, a big Euro-American trade agreement.
Oh, and amazingly I found 4 drinking fountains today all of them more art pieces than drinking fountains, but 4 is much better than 0.
