Got up this morning and headed towards Geisterklamm, a gorge/canyon/mountainous hiking trail where the entrance is only steps away from the border with Austria. Moments after steppping through you cross the invisible boundary into Austria. As with many other things and sounding redundant it was all so beautiful. There is a hiking trail that takes you up and round the canyon which is maybe a 5-6 mile hike up and down, a large section of which is on steel platforms high above the canyon and river below. The hike is loaded wih signs and interactive…things that teach you about the history and folklore of the canyon. There is another significantly shorter hike behind a tollbooth that takes you down through the canyon not too high above the water and ends with a nice view of a tall waterfall. The second half of my time (literally the roadside shop a the exact opposite fr end of the hike it started raining heavily with a heavy breeze picking up, and the temperature plunged.
I made it back into town to see another one of Mittenwald’s limited attractions. The Geigenbau Museum. Aka the violin museum, which explains in detail the violin making process as well as the history of violins in the town which goes back to the 1600s, and there are still several violin making families in the town today. It also has many on displays, lots of which are from the 17 and 1800s.

The Austrian gorge and hiking trail scenery is spectacular! What great pictures. And Mittenwald is such a picturesque place. Does the fun never end?!!!
