The title being a combination of all the things I did today.

The Alter Sudfriedhof (Old south cemetery) is a massive old cemetery bigger and better than the previous ones, though not as old. Had probaby thousands of large grave stones, though many of the ‘residents’ are older than the other cemeteries I have been to. Some from the 1700s.

The Glyptothek (pronounced Glip-toe-take) is a neat museum set in a building shaped like the Parthenon atop the Acropolis. It contains hundreds of old classic Greek statues and figures, from full bodies to heads and busts and decorations. There was a class doing life drawings of some of the figures in the galleries. “I will not rest until Munich looks like Athens.” -King Ludwig I of Bavaria

The Antiken Sammlung (Antiques collection) is a another Greek temple themed museum loaded with thousands of old Etruscan artifacts, mainly pottery, ceramics and jewelry. A civilization in Italy conquered by the Romans, but not so much in a violent way. The Romans were amazed with the Etruscan cities, culture, and art, and the two coexisted, though Tuscany became part of the Roman empire and lost much of its identity.

The München Residenz was the palace of over a dozen kings and princes of Bavaria in a beautiful Rococo art style, similar to other European palaces of splendor. Built in the 1600s, and nearly completely bombed to the ground, so much of it had to be rebuilt, though many of the paintings and artwork were taken away and secured during WW2 and are back on display.

The Münchener Stadt Museum is a neat museum on the history of Munich from the 1600s to the modern day.

The Bier und Oktoberfest is a … charming little museum in what probably used to be an inn a long long time ago. It contains displays old beer mugs and Oktoberfest memorabilia, as well as displays on the history of brewing and brewers in Munich. It is also on top of a bar.

The Weiße Rose (white rose) was a short lived Nazi resistance group, comprised of several students and a teacher from Munich’s university. They distributed leaflets and fliers denouncing the Nazi regime around the campus. The leaders, including siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl were arrested by the gestapo and quickly executed by guillotine. One of the 6 copies of pamphlets was successfully smuggled out of Germany and taken to England where it was copied millios of times and spread back over the city. There are copies of some of the resistance fliers implanted in the ground at the university at the spot where they were arrested. The two main leaders, Hans and Sophie Scholl are well known and heavily praised by the Germans even today, though almost completely unknown outside of Germany.

There are a few nearby pamphlets not in the frame. There are also two large fountains nearby dedicated to the teacher and the Scholl siblings, as well as the university street name is Geschwister-Scholl-Straße (Scholl siblings street).
