The Zitadelle

Spandauer Zitadelle, a large fortress sits surrounded by a moat far in the western Berlin district of Spandau. It is nearly 900 years old and was originally a small island surrounded by a wall of wood sticks, but over the years it was rebuilt and added on to, and upgraded into a mighty fortress complete with the original tower built near the fortress’ beginning in then13th century. It is large and shaped like a ninja star, and contains tons of relics from the forts history. Inside the walls, all structures are totally reconstructed modern buildings containing museum displays, a theatre, an art gallery, an office building, and lots of restricted places. It was pretty cool walking along the fortress walls overlooking the trees and moat. I headed back to downtown, satisfied, and as for what happened the rest of the day…does anybody really know? Who can say if not me?
